The UK government provides this algorithm to check your visa status.
Short Course Visas
The following two visas are for students who want to do a short course, or an English language course of up to 11 months:
- Child visitor visa: For students of 17 years old or less who wish to study in the UK for up to 6 months.
- Student visitor visa: For students of 18 years old or more who wish to study in the UK for up to 6 months. English language course students can apply for an extended student visitor visa to stay for up to 11 months.
Long Course Visas
The course must be at a school, college or university on the register of licensed sponsors. Download an up to date PDF with the complete list of 1400+ sponsors here.
- Tier 4 (Child) student visa: For pupils/students aged between 4 and 17 years old. If you are between 4 and 15 years old, you must attend a private fee-paying school.
- Tier 4 (General) student visa: For students aged 16 or older who are eligible. For details of eligibility click here.
