University Centre for Academic English

The University Centre for Academic English (UCAE) is part of the University of Manchester and is based on the main University campus. The welcoming, accessible and multicultural environment that is the city of Manchester provides the ideal base for your time studying in the UK. 

At the UCAE, languages are our speciality and we have decades of experience and expertise that you can benefit from when you study with us. 

We have approximately 2,000 students studying our full-time academic English language courses each year, from all over the world. Our English Language courses are accredited by The British Council and and our Pre-sessional courses are also accredited by British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP) and we are proud to be recognised as the number one university language centre in the UK, according to the EL Gazette University Language Centre rankings from 2019 - 2023 - we are immensely proud of this fabulous achievement, which reflects our team's hard work and enthusiasm.

When you study with us, you can take advantage of our suite of multimedia language learning facilities which serve all of our students and, indeed, all the students of the School of Arts Languages and Cultures' degree programmes. Our English language courses are accredited the British Council, the UK's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities and our Pre-sessional courses are accredited by BALEAP - the Globally recognised standard for EAP Professionals.
