Other Information

In the IFCELS department we offer two Teaching English for Academic Purposes (TEAP) courses every year:

• a two-week intensive, full-time course in August
• a ten-week part-time course (three hours a week) from the end of April until the end of June

These courses are designed for qualified teachers who would like to move into Teaching English for Academic Purposes, but whose experience to date is predominantly or wholly in other fields of teaching English.

The content of both courses is essentially the same and includes the following key features:

• Observations of lessons in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at SOAS
• An overview of the EAP curriculum developed at IFCELS/SOAS, showing how language and subject can be closely integrated
• An opportunity to discuss and develop your own EAP teaching materials
• An introduction to the range of published EAP materials available
• An analysis of the specific needs of learners in EAP contexts
• An opportunity to develop a special interest area
