What qualification do I need?
In order to find a job in a language school, you need the best teaching qualification. The Trinity Cert TESOL is an English teaching qualification that allows the holder to teach English to foreign students in the UK and abroad. It is accredited at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA). Level 5 is comparable in difficulty to the second year of an undergraduate degree;
How long does the course take?
The course is full time and takes four weeks to complete; it consists of 134 hours of timetabled sessions including extracurricular work set by the course tutors.
What does the course consist of?
- Language awareness
- Teaching Skills
- Learner Profile
- Materials Assignment
- Unknown Language
Amongst other things, you will spend time teaching real students from ETC and observing qualified teachers do the same; you will observe your peers in teaching groups and participate in feedback sessions on your teaching. You will also learn about the structure of the English language and even learn an element of a new language so you know what it is like to be learning English for the first time!
Will this course help me find work?
In short, yes. The industry is expanding and the number of people wanting to learn English is almost inexhaustible. Whether you are hoping to find work in Bournemouth or Borneo, you should find it easy to find work with the Trinity CertTesol behind you.
Where can I find these jobs?
Internationally, most jobs will be posted by employers on sites such as tefl.com which would be your first point of call, nationally and locally, however job postings appear in the local papers such as the Bournemouth Echo; some employers use agencies to source teachers so it would be worth registering with as many of these as possible.
